Watch: A bizarre 1980s consumerist frenzy over a dimpled doll

Anyone of a certain age will remember Cabbage Patch Kids

Why did this doll go so big? Was it the marketing campaign, which made the doll seem real since you “adopted” them? Was it the “designer” aspect, complete with signature on the doll’s tush? The Cabbage Patch Kid was the viral sensation of 1980s childhood, and no one should be more embarrassed than the parents in this footage, squawking and fighting in desperation to grab one from the shelf.
