Inside Timeline’s Lab: Meet Mitochondria Expert Julie Faitg
Go inside Timeline’s lab with Dr. Julie Faitg, a leader in mitochondrial research who's shaping the future of health, performance, and longevity.

What to know
Timeline is dedicated to driving the science of healthy aging forward, standing out as one of the few supplement brands with an in-house research team.
Dr. Julie Faitg, PhD, is a leading scientist specializing in mitochondrial health and cellular energy.
Her research focuses on mitochondrial morphology and function, using advanced 3D imaging to visualize their role in aging and performance.
Julie played a key role in clinical studies on Mitopure® demonstrating its benefits for muscle strength, endurance, and skin health.
As both a scientist and competitive athlete, she applies her expertise to understanding how exercise and nutrition impact mitochondria.
At Timeline, we take science seriously. Unlike most supplement and skincare brands, we have an in-house team of world-class scientists dedicated to researching and developing products backed by cutting-edge research. In this series, we’re introducing you to the brilliant minds behind our brand, starting with Dr. Julie Faitg, PhD—a scientist whose passion for mitochondria is as dynamic as the tiny powerhouses themselves.

From Montreal to Mitochondria to Mitopure
Julie’s fascination with mitochondria started early in her career, blending her passion for science with her love of competitive sports. She earned a bachelor’s degree in toxicology and a master’s degree in mitochondrial metabolism and muscle physiology in Montreal, at a leading center for research on mitochondrial function, muscle metabolism, and aging. She then pursued her PhD at Newcastle University within the Wellcome Trust Centre for Mitochondrial Research, one of the world’s premier institutions dedicated to studying mitochondrial health and disease.
At Newcastle, she advanced her expertise in mitochondrial morphology and function, building upon her prior experience and deepening her research in the field.
Simply put, this describes how these tiny organelles multiply, fuse together, and change shape to meet the energy demands of our body. However, as Julie can attest to, this is anything but simple.

Her groundbreaking work involved developing advanced imaging techniques that allow scientists to see mitochondria in 3D. “For me, seeing is believing,” Julie says, underscoring her commitment to understanding mitochondria at the deepest level.
More Than Just the Powerhouse of the Cell
Most people learned that the mitochondria are the "powerhouse of the cell" in high school biology, but they are far more than just cellular power plants. Her research has shown that healthy mitochondria are not static. Instead, they interact with each other, responding to the body’s needs by “holding hands” (fusion) or separating (fission) as needed. This adaptability is what allows us to stay active, recover from exercise, and maintain energy levels as we age.

Julie describes them as “your body’s best friends,” always working behind the scenes to keep you energized and resilient. Their health plays a critical role in muscle function, aging, and even brain performance.
Seeing Is Believing: Julie’s Groundbreaking Work
Julie has spent years refining a specialized technique to visualize mitochondria in 3D, allowing scientists to better understand their structure and function. Her expertise is crucial in Timeline’s ongoing research on Mitopure® (Urolithin A).
Mitopure is our breakthrough compound that supports mitochondrial health by promoting mitophagy, the process of clearing out dysfunctional mitochondria and making room for new, efficient ones.

The simplest form of Mitopure
Julie has played an active role in our clinical research demonstrating that Mitopure nutritional supplements:
- Significantly improve cellular energy production[1]
- Improve muscle strength in four months with 500 mgs[2]
- Improve muscle endurance in two months with 1000 mgs[3]
She’s also used her skill set in the clinical trials for Timeline’s Skincare line, featuring topical Mitopure. Our studies show that topical application:[4]
- Targets the biological factors that lead to skin aging.
- Protects skin from photodamage, which is the primary driver of skin aging.
- Visibly reduces wrinkle depth and volume in just two weeks' time.

Beyond the Lab
Julie plays a vital dual role at Timeline, combining her scientific expertise with a key position in Regulatory Affairs. She ensures that every claim we make is backed by rigorous evidence, setting Timeline apart from supplement companies that rely on marketing hype. Our approach is rooted in real science, and Julie works tirelessly to validate every statement through clinical research.
We have a responsibility to ensure that what we say about our products is not just exciting to drive sales, but also 100% true and based on quality science,” she explains.Dr. Julie Faitg, PhD
The Athlete-Scientist
Julie’s passion for mitochondrial health extends beyond the lab. As a competitive swimmer and coach, she has always been fascinated by how mitochondrial function impacts athletic performance. She credits her research with giving her a deeper understanding of how exercise strengthens mitochondria, fueling endurance, strength, and recovery.
“Exercise is the best pill,” she says, emphasizing how movement is key to maintaining mitochondrial function. But she also recognizes that not everyone has the energy, physical capability, or desire to exercise. This is where Timeline’s research comes in. Mitopure has been shown to support mitochondrial health even in sedentary individuals, making it a game-changer for energy and longevity.

An Artist at Heart
When Julie’s not in the lab or the pool, she’s showcasing her love of the mitochondria through art. Her creative work blends science and expression, turning cellular powerhouses into colorful masterpieces.
Julie’s Top Three Tips for Supporting Mitochondrial Health
As both a leading mitochondrial expert and a competitive athlete, Julie knows what it takes to keep mitochondria thriving. Here are her top three tips for optimal mitochondrial health:
- Stay active: Exercise is one of the best ways to keep your mitochondria functioning at their best.
- Stay motivated: Making movement a habit takes time, but consistency is key to long-term health.
- Take Timeline: Urolithin A can help support mitochondrial function, providing a foundation for better energy, recovery, and performance.
